Student Awards
Band Letter
A Band member may Letter in Band by meeting the following requirements:
- Membership in the Silver Regiment Marching Band and Concert Bands for one year for musicians
- Membership in the Silver Regiment Marching Band and Lake Howell Winter guard for Color Guard students
- ZERO unexcused rehearsal and performance absences
- Participation at FBA District 6 Solo & Ensemble Festival for musicians
- All financial obligations to the Band and school are up-to-date
- Overall 2.0 school GPA
- Overall 3.0 Band GPA
- Participation in "All Mandatory Fundraisers"
Letters are awarded to the Band member once. If the Band member continues to meet the above criteria each year thereafter, a Bar is awarded for the year to be placed on the Letter.
White Graduation Cord
The White Graduation cord is a token of achievement given to a student who has completed the Silver Regiment Band and Guard program through the end of their senior year from the moment they begin. This includes Marching Band and Concert Band or Winterguard. If a student decides to not continue the program for any reason, then the student loses eligibilty for earning their cord.
Band Pride Award
These special awards recognize those Band members who consistently strive to improve musically and who never fail to exhibit a high degree of personal dignity in conducting themselves as members of the Band Program. They will have gone above and beyond what is required of band students. The recipients of this award are chosen by the band council and must be a member in good standing in the Band Program.
Roland Castro Scholarship Award
Awarded to the senior who has shown outstanding musical achievement throughout his/her four years at Lake Howell High School. The candidate for this scholarship has performed with various honor ensembles (All-County, All-State, Festival of Winds, Tri-State, etc.) as well as District/State Solo & Ensemble Festivals. The recipient of this award must be a member in good standing in the Band Program. A $250 scholarship will be awarded to the recipient.
Charles Sandry Scholarship Award
Awarded to the senior who has shown exceptional musical ability and plans to continue playing in his/her college band/orchestra. A candidate for this scholarship is not required to major in music. The recipient of this award must be a member in good standing in the Band Program. A $250 scholarship will be awarded to the recipient.
Troy Driggers Scholarship Award
Awarded to the senior who has shown outstanding performance and leadership as a member of the Lake Howell Visual Ensemble. The candidate for this scholarship has exhibited exceptional talent in the areas of Rifle, Flag, Dance, Sabre and overall performance effectiveness. The recipient of this award must be a member in good standing in the Lake Howell Band Program. A $250 scholarship will be awarded to the recipient.
Gary Berns Memorial Pride Scholarship Award
Awarded to the senior who has shown outstanding loyalty and dedication to the Band Program. The candidate has exhibited great pride in his/her band in many ways. He/She attends functions held for and by the Band and is always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. The recipient of this award must me a member in good standing in the Band Program. A $250 scholarship will be awarded to the recipient
Luke Mackin Memorial Scholarship Award
Awarded to the senior who has shown outstanding growth and development through the band program. The candidate has exhibited great progress as a musician and as a person over their four years in the band. He or she has greatly benefited from the teachings and the philosophy of the band program. The recipient of this award must me a member in good standing in the Band Program. A $250 scholarship will be awarded to the recipient.
Louis Armstrong Award
This special award recognizes the senior who exemplifies outstanding achievement as an instrumentalist in the field of Jazz, as demonstrated through superior musicianship, character and individual creativity. The recipient of this award must me a member in good standing in the Band Program. A $250 scholarship will be awarded to the recipient
John Philip Sousa Award
This special award recognizes the senior who exemplifies outstanding achievement and interest in instrumental music, singular merit in loyalty and cooperation and those high qualities of conduct that school instrumental music requires. The John Philip Sousa Award is the highest honor given to band students. The recipient of this award must be a member in good standing in the Band Program. A $250 scholarship will be awarded to the recipient
